W3 Worlds Unlimited is a collaborative worldbuilding platform. You create a world, populate it with structured entries — characters, locations, factions, events, artifacts, concepts, magic systems — and set rules for how other people can participate. Open, curated, or paid. You decide what’s canon and what’s lore. You decide who can fork your world and under what conditions.
In late 2020 and through 2021, I was given access to the pre-public beta of a writing tool called Sudowrite, built by James Yu and a small team. It was, at the time, the most capable Transformer-based AI writing assistant in existence. It would later go public and become the standard tool of its kind for novelists. In that pre-public beta, I sat down with the model and we wrote a novel together.

There’s a conversation happening in creative communities right now that I find exhausting. It goes like this: AI is going to replace writers. AI is cheating. AI output is soulless. Real artists don’t use AI. If you use AI you’re not really creating.
I spent years telling anyone who would listen that Amazon was the problem. Not a problem — the problem. The monopolist eating indie publishing alive, the algorithm overlord that made serfs of writers, the company that could delist your life’s work on a Tuesday afternoon with no explanation and no appeal. I believed all of that. I still believe most of it.
