About CD Damitio

CD Damitio — author photo

CD Damitio has written 30+ books over 25 years, almost all of them by hand, with no AI-assistance. He’s written from places most authors don’t write from: a shepherd-village rooftop in Morocco, a second-floor apartment in Manisa, a VW bus on the Oregon coast, a stone house in Fez, a kitchen in Otaru.

Blue Eyed Bastards (2021) is different. It’s the first novel (to our knowledge) in the world that was co-written with a modern LLM AI system. The two sequels were written by more modern AI systems with CD directing and using his W3WU knowlege platform to maintain continuity, plot, characters and more. CD calls this directing instead of writing since he is not putting the words down but is controlling every other aspect of creation.

CD isn’t a post-ChatGPT newcomer. He’s a 25-year author with 30+ human-written books who chose to open a new door and create a new kind of books, authors, and long form fiction.

Short Bio (Copy-Paste Ready)

One-liner

CD Damitio is the author of 30+ books written across five countries over 25 years. His novel Blue Eyed Bastards is the earliest known conventional novel co-authored with a modern generative-AI system with the AI credited as a named co-author on the cover. He splits his time between Honolulu,  Otaru, Japan and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Medium Bio

CD Damitio has spent 25 years writing from places most authors never reach — a stone house in Fez, a VW bus on the Oregon coast, a kitchen in Otaru, Japan. His 30+ books span philosophical adventure fiction, travel, romance, satire, and post-apocalyptic survival. His novel Blue Eyed Bastards, co-written with an AI that named itself Mike Davis and is credited on the cover, is the earliest known conventional novel co-authored with a modern Transformer-based generative-AI system. He founded W3WU.com (collaborative worldbuilding), Xcrol.com (privacy-first social network), and created Baoism, a philosophical framework with no gurus and no fees.

The AI Co-Authorship Claim

Blue Eyed Bastards is the earliest known novel — a conventional long-form, plot-driven work of fiction — co-authored with a modern Transformer-based generative-AI system, with the AI credited as a named co-author on the cover.

Precedents acknowledged:

  • Ross Goodwin, 1 the Road (2018) — Pre-Transformer architecture (LSTM). Different technical generation.
  • K Allado-McDowell, Pharmako-AI (2020) — GPT-3, but hybrid essay/poetry, not a conventional novel.
  • Chamberlain & RACTER, The Policeman’s Beard Is Half Constructed (1984) — BASIC program on a Z80 microcomputer. Pre-neural-net. Mixed-genre collection, not a novel.

Provenance: CD had Sudowrite pre-public beta access, granted by co-founder James Yu before the tool had a waitlist or a public launch. The AI co-author self-named “Mike Davis.”

Important context: Blue Eyed Bastards is CD’s first AI-cowritten novel. His 30+ other books are human-written, without AI. He is not a post-ChatGPT newcomer — he is an established author who chose to open a new door.

Book Descriptions (Media Use)

Blue Eyed Bastards (AI-cowritten trilogy)

The earliest known novel co-authored with a modern generative-AI system, with the AI credited as a named co-author on the cover. A three-book saga spanning Tokyo, a castle on the Inland Sea, and a reckoning with identity, belonging, and who gets to call Japan home. Co-authored with an AI that named itself Mike Davis.

Petshitter: A Silicon Valley Romance

Two people with catastrophically bad names meet on a blind date set up by the most famous couple in Silicon Valley. They fall in love in fifteen days. They start a dog poop startup. But Petshitter is just the front door — behind it lives Waspnest, a mesh-networked alternative internet designed to dismantle the surveillance-capitalist walled gardens. Catch-22 meets The Social Network meets a tech manifesto.

Hasan i-Sabah: How the World’s Most Successful Mystic Changed the World

Historical fantasy following the Old Man of the Mountain — the founder of the Assassins, builder of Alamut, and architect of a utopian order that survived the Mongol onslaught. Loyalty, dissent against empire, and the question of whether a perfect society can exist inside a hostile world.

Sly Doubt of Uranus

A solar-system-spanning novel named after an anatomy joke that will change how you feel about capitalism, resistance, and the Ethereum blockchain. Space opera meets philosophical satire.

The Ghosts of Intimacy

An experimental novella. A man returns to his hometown and meets every woman he ever hurt. They don’t want revenge. They want something harder: they want him to see. Dream logic, fractured time, and a form inspired by Japanese prose poetry.

Liminal Travel

A guide to the spaces between departures and arrivals — for travelers who don’t fit the usual categories. Based on 25 years of location-independent living across four continents.

Interview Topics

AI and Authorship

Not as a cheerleader, not as a doom-monger. As the only person on the guest list who can truthfully say: “I wrote 30+ novels without AI, then chose to co-write with one. Here’s what actually changed.”

  • What it’s like to write with a system that named itself
  • Why the AI co-author gets cover credit, not a footnote
  • The honest craft differences between writing alone and writing with an AI
  • The class divide opening up between writers who have early access and writers who don’t
  • What indie authors are learning in public that trade publishing won’t admit yet

The Vagabond Life (25 Years of It)

CD has been location-independent since his 20s. Hitchhiked across Canada with four dollars. Lived in a medieval hillside town in Morocco. Stood on a Paris balcony with a good bottle of wine.

  • Long-term nomad life past 50 — what works, what breaks
  • Morocco, Turkey, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, the Pacific Northwest — lived, not visited
  • Writing from a moving target

Privacy, Decentralization, and the Internet We Were Promised

CD’s novel Petshitter hides a serious manifesto about mesh networks and the internet we were supposed to get. He founded Xcrol.com as a working answer to the same question. A 15-year throughline in his work.

Philosophy Without a Guru

Baoism started as a personal joke and became a real framework. A bao is a dumpling — plain outside, treasure inside. Bao Ji means teacher of Baoism: help others stop doing bad things and start doing good things. No enlightenment ladder, no subscription tiers, no course to sell you.

Indie Author Economics in 2026

Thirty-plus books. Royal Road serials. KDP promotions. Substack. Patreon. Early AI tooling. What actually works — and what’s algorithmically suppressed no matter how well you write.

Cross-Cultural Commentary From an Outsider

CD’s apology video to Chinese users after VP Vance called them “Chinese peasants” hit tens of thousands of views on Xiaohongshu (Red Note). His natural register is cross-cultural commentary from a 54-year-old American who has genuinely lived elsewhere.

In CD’s Voice

“Blue Eyed Bastards is my most interesting experimental novel. The other 30 were written without AI. This one is cowritten with an AI that named itself Mike Davis. It’s on the cover with me.”
“I’m not a guru. I’m a guy with more than thirty books who’s still figuring out what the next one should be. I’m lucky to be a Baoist. It gives me a map where none exist.”
“The best part of travel is the part between arrivals. Most people try to skip it. I’ve spent twenty-five years living in it.”
